Orpheus Technology is…
… mostly me, for now. Hi. My name is Mat. I started Orpheus Technology in 2012. Both website and database development were the initial focus of the business. The majority of my experience before starting Orpheus had been with databases. And websites were the most recent applications I had developed before starting the business. Hence the dual focus of Orpheus Technology at the start. I started doing all the duties from the office boy right up to those of senior management, from the inception of Orpheus Technology. However, there are currently plans afoot for an expansion and a minor change of focus.
Rather than maintaining the earlier two-pronged focus, I have chosen to concentrate on data. It’s capture, storage, reporting and, importantly, security. Because of this tightening of focus, I will shortly be in the market for an experienced SQL programmer, probably on a contract basis. Alternatively, I will possibly put on a trainee if they can prove to me that they are capable of picking up the language in a relatively short period.
Relational databases appealed to me right from my very first lecture at the University of Queensland. Since then they have always made perfect sense to me. I have accumulated my many enjoyable years of experience since university in both the private and public sectors in Europe and Australia. In my eyes, a well designed and optimized database is a thing of real beauty. When someone says that you either: a) worry about their sanity; or b) immediately get them working on your database because databases are clearly their passion.
Why change the focus of Orpheus Technology?
I have been working in IT for approximately 25 years. Over 20 of those years with data capture, storage, and reporting. The bulk of that data storage work was on large/medium to large computerized enterprise databases. During my years in the IT industry, I have noticed a gap for servicing medium-sized to medium/small businesses. These businesses are big enough to benefit from a computerized database. However, often they are not financial enough to have their own IT branch. Or, for that matter, even a single full-time IT professional.
A business database is a massive asset to any business of average size or above. Unfortunately, many business owners haven’t been made aware of the beneficial tasks such a tool can do. I take great joy in demonstrating the immense benefits a relational database can bring. Orpheus Technology will analyse your business, fully document it and walk you through the documentation and explain, from a data-driven perspective, how your business functions now. Then we will explain the computerised system, highlighting the many benefits.
